About Us

OUR HISTORY

The Capella & District Pastoral & Agricultural Society was first formed at a public meeting held on 9th December 1961. Capella’s first show was held just 6 months later Monday, 2nd June 1962 at the Capella Racecourse. For its second show the Society decided to relocate the event to the sports grounds located near the town’s slaughter yards. This area of land along with a further 5 acres generously donated by Mr J Bridgeman has been the home of the Capella Show ever since. This area of land is now known as Bridgeman Park.

Among the many volunteers who have dedicated their time and passion since its formation the society’s founding executive committee members were MR BC Besley (President), V Weston (Snr Vice President), A Weston (Jnr Vice President), J Pyne & M Dyer (Vice Presidents), John White (Secretary) and W Kettle (Treasurer).

From the first hour of time, the first loaned truck or donated marquee for use during the show the Capella & District Show Society still to this day relies on the generosity of its volunteers and local community to make each show a success.

If you would like to learn more about the history of the Capella Show, 50th Anniversary Books can be purchased from Capella Agencies or by contacting the Show Secretary.
